Mitchells Worktops have been supplying Kitchen Worktops and Bathroom Surfaces to trade and retail customers from their base in Southampton for over 70 years. Mitchells first discovered the benefits of storing their products in narrow aisle cantilever racking a number of years ago and purchased a used HUBTEX four-way sideloader. Delighted with the performance and reliability of the used machine, which was originally manufactured in 1996, Mitchells asked HUBTEX how they could improve their operation whilst still working with narrow aisles and restricted heights. HUBTEX specified a new AC technology unit with advanced multidirectional steering to improve their manoeuvrability, which could be used both indoors and outdoors to load customer’s vehicles. With the knowledge and experience of HUBTEX’s quality, Alister Mitchell purchased a new HUBTEX multidirectional sideloader in 2018.
New Warehouse Means More Stock
With a growing range of worktops and the need to provide a quick delivery on stocked products, Mitchells made the decision to expand their capacity and open a brand-new warehouse opposite their existing Millbrook Showroom in Southampton, offering an increased range of ex-stock kitchen worktops, panels and accessories. At that stage Alister called on the expertise of HUBTEX to supply a second unit to ensure they have 100% capability to support their customers with quality products and service.
“The success of any long load, narrow aisle warehousing operation is primarily down to the reliability of handling equipment and the quality of service support” commented Paul McNally, UK Sales and Business Development Manager. “The last thing you need is equipment stuck in the aisles and no means to access the goods. Although happy with their original HUBTEX machine, Mitchells were highly impressed with the technological and operational advancement of their new machine and then called on us for advice with the new warehouse, and for an additional multidirectional sideloader”.
Working closely with Mitchells, HUBTEX UK made recommendations on how the sideloader could operate in tighter locations with a superior multidirectional steering solution, which also improved the safety distances of the sideloader. With a frequently changing stock profile and the need to optimise the space available, the layout and design of the new warehouse was configured to be totally interchangeable and allow both machines to operate on either site. This ensures that the operation will always have access to a unit, even when one of the machines is being serviced by HUBTEX’s technicians.
